Giggs is…

May 1, 2008

What celebrity would your pet be? I'm Will Ferrell! Find out at Dogster.com

Will Ferrell!

Keeping a straight face around Giggs is a cheek muscle-wrenching nightmare. Try as you may, but giggling is inevitable because Giggs is comedian Will Ferrell!

For a while Giggs was just funny on Saturday nights, but that’s all changed now that he’s taken his act on the road. Whether he’s being silly in real life or on the silver screen, Giggs has a true knack for making people crack up. Giggs has even managed to make the crossover to the cyberwebs, where he delivers raw, fresh, uncooked humor to his countless cyberpet fans. A fast runner, Giggs runs marathons when he’s not dreaming up his next slapstick routine. Widely talented and able to impetsonate any number of two and four-legged critters, Giggs’s fans will be lapping it up for a long time to come.

Snagged this off Norman’s blog. Go check his out too!

COOKIES!

April 26, 2008

We just got a new doggy store in town so we thought we’d check it out. Today was actually our second time in the store and I’m just blogging about it now since I’m really lacking for blog fodder at the moment.

Anyway, this store has an awesome bakery section with lots of goodies for the pups. The first time we went I bought Giggs a cannoli treat and a PUGGS boot toy -so cute! This time we got him three things from the bakery and I actually remembered to take pictures!

My favorite is the fortune cookie and you can get a package of them in the cutest Chinese take-out container. I may have to buy one or two packs for our next pug meet…

Here’s Giggs’ fortune:

In case you can’t read it, it says: ‘A good bath will soon bring you closer to the ones you love.’

He just had a bath last week! I hope I don’t have to give him another one right away!

Oh yeah, he only got to choose ONE treat today. We’ll save the other two for later.

What We Take For Granted

April 11, 2008

Yesterday at about 1pm or so, we discovered that we didn’t have any water!  There wasn’t a scheduled outage and the bills are all up to date, so we were like WTF!

It’s amazing how much we take having water at our fingertips for granted!  We have three toilets in this house.  That meant that for the duration of the outage, each toilet could only be flushed once.  That meant we each got one poop with one toilet to spare.  That meant that any pee trips meant the pee had to stay in the toilet.  This thoroughly disgusts me.  Abundant water is one of the joys of living in Canada.  I was not impressed when I couldn’t flush my damn toilets.

Sure, I’m all for conservation of water and we aren’t overly wasteful people to begin with.  I shut the tap off while I brush my teeth and we take showers, and I only run a full dishwasher and do do full loads of laundry, etc.  But when I poop or pee, I WANT IT GONE! I HAVE TO FLUSH!

I don’t know how many times I absentmindedly turned the water on to wash my hands only to find none there.  I also squirt soap on my hands first and then turn on the water, so I ended up with soapy hands and had to wipe them on a dry cloth.

Tony got the runaround from the city and water people and they didn’t know what was going on so we left the house and took Giggs for a walk and to the dog park, and then we went for coffee.  We got home around dinner time and still no water.

At 7pm I went to yoga.  I came home at 8:30 and… no water.  We managed to find out that our entire row of seven townhouses is without water while the other 25 are fine.  Great.  Maybe the neighbours will let me poop and shower at their place.  Also, by this point, we’re out of drinking water.  I had big plans for a relaxing bath whilst eating strawberries and I was getting pissed off.

Luckily, our good friend is a plumber and Tony decided to take matters into his own hands.  He called him over and they managed to get a key into the plumbing room place.  What did they discover?  Well, it looks like the landscapers had been in there earlier in the day and shut the irrigation lines off (because when the boys turned them back on, there was a spot that was in need of repair and flooding, or something) and they also managed to shut off the water main to our building for good measure.  Then they left.  So helpful.

Anyway, in the end, I got to run around and delightfully flush all the toilets and that made me very happy.  Then I got to wash my strawberries and settle in to a nice hot bath at about 9pm.  Tony and our plumber friend hung out and drank beer to celebrate their manliness.  I feel the urge to go scrub toilets, just for good measure.

March Pug Meet

April 10, 2008

We had a pug-meet the last weekend in March and I am finally posting about it! The weather was awesome and I brought my Little Sister C along to play with all the pugs. She had a pretty good time. Giggs however, had a fabulous time! His bestest wrestle buddy was there and they went at it non-stop! Her name is Pearl and she’s around the same age as Giggs and just as hyper so they make quite the pair. It never fails, they instantly find each other every meet-up and then they wrestle non-stop -well, Giggs stops to pee on things here and there, and they stop for water, but that’s it.

Behold!

A very rare still moment between the two wrestle pugs (probably the only one on film):

And… there they go again…

Pearl takes Giggs on 100% and she kicks his butt a fair share of the time.

One happy, tired pug :)

Giggs’ Portrait

April 3, 2008

I don’t think I’ve blogged about this yet, but I am officially a ‘Big Sister’ through Big Brothers Big Sisters. I signed up back in November and after all the screening interviews, criminal record check, references, and Christmas holidays, I was finally matched with a nine-year-old girl. I’ll call her C or refer to her as my ‘Little’.

C and I have had a couple outings together so far and she really likes to do crafts, so I usually plan one each visit. I see her once a week for 2-4 hours. C really likes animals (Giggs included) and Giggs ADORES her as he does most children. Last time C was over she decided that she would like to do some drawing and she asked if she could sketch Giggs. I grabbed him and put him in my lap so he would stay semi-still for her. Anyway, here’s Giggs’ portrait:

This was her very first pug sketch and she did this in about two minutes! We decided to put it on the fridge and hung it down at the very bottom so Giggs can check himself out as often as he likes -he is a little bit vain after all.

LONG Overdue!

March 25, 2008

I’ve been very lax with the picture/visual aspect of this blog for some time. I do like it here better than Blogger, but I find that uploading pictures here and getting them the correct size, etc. takes a LOT more effort than it took on Blogger. Because of this, I get really lazy when it comes to putting up pictures. I guess a girl can’t have it all.

Anyway, here are the pictures of our presents from our pug friends in Vancouver!

Some of you have already noticed this guy in our header:

Here’s a close-up of all the pug-Buddha gloriousness!

Giggs also got this guy! (He’s temping for Buddha)

The tag said he was designed by an artist but I lost it in the unpacking madness after our trip and I can’t remember her name! Giggs got a chewy stick too but that was gone before we even made it home!

I was also given this as my belated birthday present:

It has magnets on the back (and a stand) and I keep it on my fridge :)

You can see just how long ago these pictures were actually taken. Yes it has taken me this long to post them (see above). BTW, that was the day of my kitchen thumb-slicing accident!

Thanks for the presents!

Happy Easter! (Monday)

March 24, 2008

I hope everyone had a nice holiday with their families.  We kept it pretty mellow and stayed in town for Easter.  I spent Friday night catching up on snuggle time with Giggs since we had company visit during the week (he was feeling neglected).  My friend Aimee from Whistler came to visit and she brought her Shiba Inu Peekay.  He’s MUCH bigger than last time he visited (August), but is still hell bent on dominating Giggs.  Giggs could care less, he just wants to play, but Peekay has to be the only dog and is much friendlier that way.  It was interesting…  Peekay has just learned to mark, and on Tuesday, he peed on the Party Lite lady’s bag (I had a candle party).  I remember those days…

Saturday was spent lounging in the family coffee shop and then we went to a surprise birthday party for Tony’s dad’s girlfriend -it was her 50th.  After that, we headed over to Tony’s brother’s place to play some Rockband!  I totally rocked ‘Ballroom Blitz’ on the mike.  I am not so good on the drums though, they require more coordination than my body is capable of.

Yesterday (Easter Sunday) Tony made me breakfast in bed!  Then we again went for coffee to do our Sunday crossword, picked up my sisters and headed up to my parents for Easter dinner.  We had turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, ham, scalloped potatoes, brussels sprouts, yams,  salad, and for dessert blueberry and apple pies with ice cream.  I whined and so my mom made the ham and scalloped potatoes just for me :)  (My sisters don’t like ham.)  I have lots of leftovers in my fridge too :)  I’m gonna sneak over there again this week sometime because there will be split pea and ham soup…

So today I’m catching up on things.  I’ve been such a slug lately sleeping in late everyday, and I think it’s partially due to the time change, so I have to reset my internal clock and start going to bed earlier.  Maybe 11pm instead of 1am!

‘Crusher of the weak’-that’s me

March 20, 2008

Snagged this off of Shannon’s blog…

What Christine Means

You are very open. You communicate well, and you connect with other people easily.
You are a naturally creative person. Ideas just flow from your mind.A true chameleon, you are many things at different points in your life. You are very adaptable. You are truly an original person. You have amazing ideas, and the power to carry them out.Success comes rather easily for you… especially in business and academia. Some people find you to be selfish and a bit overbearing. You’re a strong person. You are wild, crazy, and a huge rebel. You’re always up to something.

You have a ton of energy, and most people can’t handle you. You’re very intense.

You definitely are a handful, and you’re likely to get in trouble. But your kind of trouble is a lot of fun.

You tend to be pretty tightly wound. It’s easy to get you excited… which can be a good or bad thing.

You have a lot of enthusiasm, but it fades rather quickly. You don’t stick with any one thing for very long.

You have the drive to accomplish a lot in a short amount of time. Your biggest problem is making sure you finish the projects you start.

You are the total package - suave, sexy, smart, and strong.

You have the whole world under your spell, and you can influence almost everyone you know.

You don’t always resist your urges to crush the weak[WTF?!] . Just remember, they don’t have as much going for them as you do.

You are a seeker. You often find yourself restless - and you have a lot of questions about life.

You tend to travel often, to fairly random locations. You’re most comfortable when you’re far away from home.

You are quite passionate and easily tempted. Your impulses sometimes get you into trouble.

You are very intuitive and wise. You understand the world better than most people.

You also have a very active imagination. You often get carried away with your thoughts.

You are prone to a little paranoia and jealousy. You sometimes go overboard in interpreting signals.

You are friendly, charming, and warm. You get along with almost everyone.

You work hard not to rock the boat. Your easy going attitude brings people together.

At times, you can be a little flaky and irresponsible. But for the important things, you pull it together.

Beware the Busy Buddy

March 13, 2008

For those of you who also have THIS TOY for your dogs…

It can bounce very unpredictably. Tony spiked it onto the floor last night to try and dislodge a couple treats for Giggs and the damn thing ricocheted off the floor and bounced up at a weird angle and hit me smack in the eye! I was sitting at the table eating my (second) piece of cake when, WHAMMO!

I didn’t even have a chance to shut my eye so I saw it just as it made contact with my eyeball. The bottom opening hit me square on the eye and I even felt a bit of suction on my eyeball! It was pretty freaky! I immediately thought of squash players who don’t wear goggles and get their eyeball sucked out (or something like that).

Amazingly, I do not have a black eye. It’s just tender and achy when I look all the way in any direction and a bit sore behind the eye. My vision is fine and my contact lens even made it through unmarred. Better my eyeball than Giggs’ I figure.

OH YEAH! Last night I also sliced off the tip of my right thumb making coleslaw with my mandolin slicer :(

Don’t worry, it didn’t end up in the coleslaw.

Recommended by 4 out of 5 Pugs

March 12, 2008

Tony continues to brush Giggs’ teeth each week and Giggs seems to be putting up with it ok. He dosn’t enjoy it, but he tolerates it somewhat since the ‘alpha’ says so and basically because he corners him and places him in a head-lock. So yesterday, while I’m at the gym, Tony brushed Giggs’ teeth and found out that Giggs prefers his old Oral-B electric toothbrush over his own manual doggy brush. Weird. (Don’t ask me how Tony came to figure this out, I don’t know why he tried the electric toothbrush on the dog.)

Maybe it’s because he sees us brush with electric toothbrushes and likes to follow us around the room (we both like to wander while we brush) just in case we drop any toothpaste foam. Yes, my dog mooches for toothpaste.
