I’ve Waited a Whole Year for This…

November 9, 2007
Tonight is my city’s annual Homes for the Holidays tour! It’s like Shannon’s Bloggy Parade of Homes: Christmas Edition -but in real life! It’s a fund raiser for an artistic society in town. They choose a number of homes, volunteered by the homeowners of course, and decorate them all up for Christmas. You have to buy a ticket and then you can tour the homes. It sells out every year. It’s great for Christmas ideas and it starts to get us in the Christmas mood.

Each home also usually has a store set up in the garage (where they dump you out) so you can buy decorations, goodies, etc. The homes are also usually pretty spectacular! Lately, developers of expensive neighborhoods have been volunteering their show home to get advertising out there. I don’t mind, they’re gorgeous! Our dream neighborhood show home is on the tour this year! I’ve seen this house like three times already but not decorated for Christmas!

You get a bag at your first house to put your shoes in and carry them around while you tour inside and no cameras are allowed :(

I guess they don’t want people ‘casing’ their homes…

I’ll try and sneak some pictures of the outsides of the homes with the lights and everything.

There’s also a big wine and appetizer event after the Friday night tour (we paid an extra $10) at 9pm so we’ll go to that too. I’m pretty excited! There’s also a Saturday day tour, Saturday night tour, and Sunday day tour. Why people want to go during the day is beyond me, you can’t see the lights on the outsides of the houses very well.

Saturday, we take Giggs to get his picture with Santa Claus at an SPCA fund raiser, then I’m off to a bridal shower and stagette for my friend Kim. We’re all going up to Big White (the ski hill) to stay in a condo there overnight. I’m looking forward to the hot tub! My good friend Aimee is coming from Whistler for the event! She’ll be here tonight and she’s bringing Peekay!

I should have some good pics and stories on Sunday for ya!

  3. You are living my dream life, did you know that? That house tour sounds fantastic. back in Charleston, SC I used to go to a similiar event, but it was in October, so big pretty old historic houses but not decorated for Christmas. That’s brilliant. And I love that you paid the extra money for the reception. A MUST.
