Quickie

September 27, 2008

Just a quick pop-in to update on the pugs:

Mea is doing well and healing fine.  I’m spiking her kibble with some potent vitamin C (ascorbic acid) to help keep any possible infections at bay and her stitches seem to be healing despite her not-so-cooperative behavior.  She’s a wild woman that refuses to be tamed, I tell ya!

A quick question to those of you who also just had your little ones recently spayed: Did they regress in the potty-training deptartment after their surgery?  I remember that Giggs did out of spite, but that’s just his lovely personality, and he expressed his displeasure with poop prezzies at the door.

Mea is different though, every morning since her spay surgery she has peed in the bedroom first thing in the morning (I learned to put a pee-pad down after the first day).  That’s the last four days in a row and she hasn’t done that for a long time!  I’m wondering if it has to do with the surgery or the fact that Giggs is gone.

Speaking of the handsome devil… we’ll be picking Giggs up on Sunday evening or Monday sometime.  He has been a good boy at my parents’ place but he’s keeping them up at night.  He keeps waking up with every little noise and starts growling/low barking.  He always does this when Tony’s away overnight so I’m guessing he misses his alpha.  Awww!  I know I’ve sure missed having him around these past few days.

Anyway, any thoughts or info about the Mea morning pee issue are greatly appreciated.

So Far So Good

September 24, 2008

We picked Mea up from the vet’s just before 5pm yesterday.  She was alert and not nearly as groggy as Giggs was from his neuter surgery.  Mea recieved the IV fluids whereas Giggs did not (they couldn’t get a vein on him) and I think it made a huge difference.  Her body was able to clear out the anesthetic much faster so she was tired but not too dopey.  She was also microchipped and had some dental work done.

When we got there she gave me the big stink eye and wouldn’t come over to greet me!  She did go to daddy when he called her though.  I felt really bad :( but she forgave me soon enough.

We had plans for a big dinner at a friend’s place and they said it would be ok to bring Mea (otherwise we weren’t going to go) so we headed straight to their place and Mea spent most of the evening sleeping in her crate in the living room.  When she woke up I kept her on her leash to keep her calm and out of trouble.

I think her pain meds make her sleepy because Tony said she conked out again this morning after I left for work.  She’s been eating with no problem and today she’s just as hyper as usual.  I’m having trouble keeping her from jumping and pug running. Obviously her pain meds are working well.  I’m keeping an eye on her stitches and they look good so far.

Anyway, that’s about it for now.  She’s trying to use my laptop as a prop for her antler chew…

Li’l Baby Mea

September 22, 2008

My little bit goes to the vet tomorrow morning to be spayed.  Giggs is going to go stay with Gramma and Grampa while she recovers.  It’s easier than having to keep him away from her stitches.  Plus, I think that being grabbed by the scruff/tail/rear leg and dragged around the house qualifies as too strenuous an activity for her recovery…

Please keep her in your thoughts and I’ll update tomorrow evening.

Update:  The vet’s office called and Mea’s surgery went well and she’s in recovery.  We get to pick her up between 3:30 and 5 pm.

Lazy Me

September 17, 2008

Sorry for the lack of posts so far this month!  Things are pretty stressed around here right now for many various reasons.  I do not seem to be able to get anything accomplished and yet the days fly by!

We celebrated Tony’s birthday with party here at the house on Saturday night. Let’s just say the evening ended with me wearing the T-shirt of a friend’s band, a cowboy hat, boots, and not much else.  Good times, good times.  It was a long T-shirt, almost like a short dress.  Just so you don’t think I’m that kind of girl, LOL!

In other news, I’m seriously behind turning in a writing assignment so that’s got me stressed and I’ve rejoined the substitute teacher ranks but have yet to work since it’s September and call outs are slow.  (I took a break from teaching last year to try other things.)  The fact that I’m potentially teaching again is already causing me great insomnia because I can’t sleep if I think my phone may ring at 6am.  This makes me slightly cranky to be around…

The pugs however, are great!  My lovely little stress relievers.  If it wasn’t for them I’d be a lot worse off.

Oh!  And indoor co-ed soccer season starts this Friday!  I can go run around and smoosh people into the boards!  Yay for stress relief :)
