Big Bro/Little Sis

June 24, 2008

Sorry, it’s been so long since my last post! It seems I don’t get anything done anymore these days! I’m too busy on potty patrol and too tired from being woken up at 6am or earlier.

Several people have asked how Giggs is with his new little sis. I have to say that I’m pretty impressed with the little guy :) He’s been a real champ! He hasn’t been getting too jealous and if he does, he just pouts. We’ve been making extra efforts to give him special time and lotsa lovins so he’s not deprived at all. The hardest thing for him is the fact that Mea gets fed three times a day and he only gets two meals. I’ve been giving him a cookie at lunch time to compensate. He’s actually lost a bit of weight already from the increased play times!

Mea pretty much runs Giggs’ show (heck, all of our shows -she’s a little diva). If he has something she wants (and she ALWAYS wants whatever he has) he’ll let her take it most of the time. If it’s something really good or if if he’s in his ‘chewing zone’ he’ll growl at her and then she bounces around him and barks at him -she’s a bossy little thing and a bit of a bully frankly.

The two of them love to play tug together and at first Giggs would totally rip things away from her and run her over but he’s now learned the game lasts longer if he’s gentle. They’ll tease each other with some ‘keep away’ and they LOVE to face fight and wrestle. If Giggs gets too zealous, Mea turns into an evil banshee-psycho and kicks his butt. She stands on her back legs and gets right in his face with her paws and teeth. It’s pretty funny but I have to grab her and give her a break from him so she doesn’t scratch his eyeballs out. I’m pretty sure she’ll be the dominant dog. I’m still trying to get a picture of her giving Giggs the what for.

Giggs is an instigator and loves to get her riled up and he’ll keep going back for more. He’s very clever and quickly learned that to get rid of her, all he needs to do is run up the stairs and once she follows, run back down. Poor little Mea can’t go down stairs yet so he strands her at the top, LOL. Then mama has to come save her after a couple yips.

After about a week, Giggs finally warmed-up to letting her lay down with him. At first he’d always get up and move rather than snuggle. Now he even shares his bed with her!

Mamma Mea!

June 10, 2008

On Sunday morning I got a BIG surprise!

This is Giggs’ little sister Mea!

Tony made breakfast bright and early Sunday morning and just after we finished clearing up, the doorbell rang. I asked Tony if he was expecting someone and he said no, so I answered it in my early morning hotness thinking it may be the religious folks (you know the ones) but standing there was Giggs’ breeder and she was holding a little black puppy!

I was shocked to say the least, so I said hello (thinking maybe she was stopping by since she was in the neighbourhood or something) and when I saw the gift bag she was also holding, I asked, “Did I win something?” She goes, “Yah, here,” and hands me the puppy! At this point there was some gasps and screaming and some OMGs. Tony was standing in the kitchen, watching the scene unfold with a smirk on his face.

Now most of you know I have been pestering Tony for another pug for MONTHS and he kept saying he didn’t want another one. Well it turns out, in April, he emailed Giggs’ breeder to inquire about litters, etc. thinking we’d end up on a wait-list and we’d have a puppy in six months to a year. It turns out that they had just had a litter and there was a black female that they were planning on selling.

Before checking their wait-list, Amanda (breeder) happened to check her email and there was Tony’s inquiry. A black female was just what Tony said we were most interested in, so Amanda emailed back and said they had one now!  Since we already have one of her dogs, we got to bypass the waitlist, and a few weeks later, here she is!  Tony figured it must be fate so he made the decision and has been keeping this secret for a month-and-a-half!

Don’t I have the best guy EVER! And now, not one but TWO cute pugs!

Over at The Misadventures of Pug & Bugg, the ladies are hosting a competition called Sophie’s Next Pug Model’ -based off of the ‘America’s Next Top Model’ reality show.

This is the photo Giggs has entered for the first challenge: Me and My Stuffy.

It’s a pic of him and his snake stuffy who we call Hissyfit:

Wish him luck! (As if he needs it -that’s right, Giggs is FIERCE!)

Knox Mountain Pug

May 15, 2008

Since the weather’s been nicer, but not yet too hot for Giggs, we’ve been out hiking a few times. My friend and I are trying to make it out twice a week and the boys come with us on the weekends. (Gotta get those beach buns back into shape!)

So far we’ve only been going to Knox Mountain since there’s lots of trail variety and it’s super close to downtown (so we can go for coffee afterwards -there go the beach buns!) Anyway, here’s some pictures from our hike about three weeks ago.

Here’s the view from one of the lookouts, overlooking my city:

Here you can see our new bridge being constructed, it’s supposed to open at the end of this month.

Here’s the topmost lookout. Lots of people get married up here. There’s also washrooms and a water fountain (with a doggy dish) and a caretaker’s cabin/residence.
